Study in Brown

Highly impressive post-war Jazz delivered by drummer Max Roach, saxophonist Harold Land, pianist Richie Powell, bassist George Morrow, and of course trumpeter Clifford Brown. One of the three most important (not to mention brilliant) trumpet players in the history of Jazz, Clifford Brown adds to his luster on this varied program of nine engaging tunes + 2 bonus tracks. (Powell (24) and Brown (25) were both killed in a car crash in 1956 when on tour.) All of Brown's stuff is essential but this album is the most consistently breathtaking and is bookended by two of the quintet's greatest standards interpretations 'Cherokee' and 'Take The A Train'.
