What Isang Yun and Giacinto Scelsi had in common went beyond their shared fascination for the 'single tone' concept: by employing a totally different mindset with regard to music, each of them succeeded in creating a new style of composition. Yun, of East-Asian origin, assimilated western ideas of music; Scelsi, West-European, turned his thoughts increasingly towards the east, stimulated by eastern philosophy.
