“Cantate Domino” is probably the most famous audiophile recording of sacred music. There is hardly an audiophile music lover who does not own at least one of the numerous versions of this legendary concert recording in the ‘Oscarskyrhan’ in Stockholm. Recorded on a Revox A-77 tape machine with just two Pearl TC4 microphones, the 1976 recordings offer a high degree of spatial information and naturalness.

It was Winston Ma who, in the course of the release of the UHD album format, revealed the great secret surrounding the size of the choir. He heard about the story of sound engineer Bertil Alving, who went back to the “Oscar Church” four days after the original recording – he was so dissatisfied with the result. Equipped with his recording device and speakers, which he placed in the gallery, he listened to the choir again and again and then worked on the sound until he was satisfied with the result. When Ma counted how many singers were actually in the choir, which critics estimate to be between 250 and 400, he came up with an astonishing number: 38 (!) – plus the organist, choirmaster and soloist.

Fabio Camorani has once again taken on the original tapes in 2021 in order to preserve them in the best possible quality. After the successful UHQCD edition, ANR is now following up with an LP of outstanding sound quality: the HQ version was pressed on 180-gram vinyl and cut at 33 rpm. This strictly limited new edition is expected to sell out quickly, so you'll have to be quick to get hold of a copy of this magnificent recording. We recommend the use of "L'Art du Son" LP cleaner to wet wash your vinyl. Even new records of high quality production will benefit from this.
