The 1975 concert from Arles is widely considered to be one of Can's best performances ever – also by the band members themselves. The concert took place at the Roman Théâtre Antique in Arles. The lineup consisted of the four core members: Irmin Schmidt, Michael Karoli, Jaki Liebezeit, and Holger Czukay. The band performed as part of a festival that also featured artists such as Nico and Kevin Ayers.
The recording was unearthed from Spoon Records' archives after having existed for a long time only through the stories of those who were present. To mark the first release, it feels only fitting that the liner notes include first-hand accounts from people who attended the concert. Like the rest of the series, this release captures the unique character of Can's on-stage improvisations. Each concert was different, and these recordings provide new insight into a band whose creative process was never truly concluded.
