Blues Band
The Blues Band was formed by Manfred Mann lead singer/harp player Paul Jones and fellow bandmate, guitarist Tom McGuinness. The original line-up included bassist Gary Fletcher, slide-guitarist Dave Kelly (who'd previously played with the John Dummer Band, Howlin' Wolf and John Lee Hooker), and drummer Hughie Flint, of John Mayall's Blues Breakers and McGuinness Flint, the outfit he formed with Tom McGuinness. When Flint left in 1982, he was replaced by Family's Rob Townsend.
Acknowledged throughout Europe and beyond as one of the finest exponents of authentic rhythm & blues, the Blues Band continue to cut the mustard, writing and playing with passion and conviction to appreciative cross-generational audiences wherever they go.
Featuring a 13-piece horn section, Georgie Fame on Hammond organ and Geraint Watkins on keys, on 'Brassed Up' the band pay homage to the early Motown sound with a cover of 'Stubborn Kind Of Fellow'. A soulful rendition of Chicago Curtis Mayfield's 'People Get Ready' is another jewel in the crown, on an album choc-full of swingin' brass-driven blues.
