Donald Fagen's Kamakiriad is remarkable, if only because the album marked the full reunion of Steely Dan's two main forces more than a decade after their breakup. In addition to the creative spark and infectious musicality that arose from the long-awaited collaboration between Fagen and Walter Becker, the 1993 album is significant for many other reasons – ranging from the musicians' precise interplay and bold arrangements to the unusually clear production. The musician list is a true all-star team of studio musicians: pianist Paul Griffin (Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, The Isley Brothers), guitarist Georg Wadenius (Blood, Sweat & Tears, Aretha Franklin, Paul Simon), as well as, among others, trumpeter Randy Brecker, trombonist Birch Johnson, and saxophonist Lou Marini. Together they contribute to Kamakiriad – a Grammy-nominated masterpiece that reached the Top 10 on Billboard.

On the surface, Kamakiriad is an eight-song concept album set in the future, loosely following a protagonist on a journey in his state-of-the-art sports car – a steam-powered Kamakiri equipped with its own vegetable garden and a radio connection to a satellite navigation system, long before such things became commonly known. Imaginative, colorful, whimsical, and cool – Kamakiriad captivates with irresistible funky grooves. The album leans more towards optimism than cynicism. As the narrator embarks on his journey, hopelessness and loss fade into the background, and the listener is swept away by captivating rhythms, prominent brass, and music that invites dancing. Under Walter Becker's meticulous production and elegant basslines, the music elevates with impressive ease. The arrangements by Fagen and the rest of the team fit the songs like tailor-made suits, highlighting the personality and temperament of each composition. A rich selection of brass, keyboards, organ, and percussion supports Fagen's distinctive vocals and a chorus of male and female backing vocalists. As both a critical and commercial success, Kamakiriad paved the way for Steely Dan's first tour in nearly 20 years and revitalized the collaboration between Fagen and Becker, which continued until Becker's death in 2017. Above all, however, the album is a musical journey one wants to take again and again. Drop the needle – and let the pleasure begin!

This numbered 2LP edition from Mobile Fidelity is strictly limited to 4,000 copies. The album has been specially remastered for this release at MoFi's studio in California and pressed at Fidelity Record Pressing on 180g vinyl at 45 RPM using the advanced UltraDisc One-Step process. The exclusive box includes faithful reproductions of the original artwork and iconic cover, while foil-stamped sleeves and Original Master inner sleeves underscore the archival quality of the release. A large and airy soundstage, extreme detail reproduction, pitch-black background, and full dynamics across the entire frequency range characterize the MoFi One-Step edition of Kamakiriad. The exceptional transparency and well-balanced sound even surpass the coveted, long out-of-print DVD-A and SHM-CD editions.
