Two completely different worlds exist on this small Maine island. The filthy rich summer residents hide behind gates at the east end while the lobstermen and working folk live in small cottages toward the west. One of the rich is found sprawled at the bottom of a cliff. The only full-time cop says the man slipped. His young part-time assistant has her doubts. She enlists the help of an elderly crime novelist, and together they try to figure out what happened. They have to work surreptitiously because the chief cop insists there's no crime. There isn't much mystery to solving the murder, but proving who did it is tricky. Along the way they uncover fascinating secrets; face all sorts of challenges; and find themselves in funny situations. The real mystery, though, is what happens to them and what they discover about themselves.
