Cryopreservation of South African Indigenous Goat Semen: Conservation of Valuable Genetic Materials

South African indigenous goats such as Nguni, Kalahari Red and Savannah goats are resistant to parasites and diseases and are able to survive on harsh environments. However, they are poorly managed, there is limited information on South African unimproved indigenous goat semen characteristics and fertilising capability of spermatozoa following semen cryopreservation. Fertility and recovery rates of motile spermatozoa following goat semen cryopreservation was reported to be low. Therefore, further investigation on unimproved goat semen cryopreservation is warranted.
