Colostrum, the first lacteal secretion in all mammals, is not only a good source of nutrients, but also contains many biologically active substances which play an important role in the protection and development of the newborn. However, colostrum composition and quality are affected by many factors including the preservation methods. It is useful to establish a colostrum bank to be used for newborn calves that cannot be fed by their own mother immediately after birth.
