Under Which Conditions Can Romania Join the Eurozone?: the Balassa-samuelson Effect and the Romanian Transition Economy
Csaba Olti
Nowadays, the Euro is one of the most powerful currencies of the World. Actually the Euro introduction is a very important aim of the Central and Eastern European EU Member States. In case of these countries the major problem of the Maastricht criteria implementation is caused by the high inflation rate. This is the reason why I have written this book about the conditions of the Euro introduction into Romania, focusing especially on the implementation of the convergence criterion related to the inflation rate. I made a research about the factors which have big influence on inflation rate and real gross domestic product growth in Romania because in my opinion these factors can cause the delay of the integration into the Eurozone in 2014 if they are not managed properly. Based on the results of my research I would like to propose my recommendations to the Romanian Ministry of Economy and Finance and to the National Bank of Romania because these institutions have decisive role and responsibility in fiscal and monetary policy implementations. Near these institutions I recommend this work for anybody who is interested in the macroeconomic situation of Romania by the first half of 2008.
