Philadelphia Hotel: a Boutique Hotel in Downtown Amman

This Book will explore, analyze and study the potential development of a boutique hotel in Downtown Amman, the capital of Jordan. It will also search for the impact of such a project on the whole context. The project re-uses the old Municipality building as part of the new masterplan. The site is located in downtown Amman, adjacent to the ancient Roman Amphitheatre and the Hashemite Plaza, and opposite to the mountain across, where the ancient Amman Citadel lies. Placing a boutique hotel in this location is a part of the urban development of Wadi Amman. The entire Downtown area has more than twenty five Hotels, mostly one to two stars, therefore introducing a hotel with higher standards would be a first in the area. The design intends to show a contemporary transformation of downtown Amman. New and old meet and their relationship is portrayed between the valley and the hill, a merge of two characters which creates a unique gesture that serves as an engaging space. By enhancing the pedestrian overall experience and attracting more tourists to the area, the project will play as a major urban node, empowering the energy of the place.
