The Effects of Glosses on Incidental Vocabulary Learning and Reading

As EFL teachers we use reading comprehension as an aid for intentional and incidental vocabulary growth. However, many reading passages contain low frequency words causing our students to face difficulties trying to comprehend L2 texts, and this can become a handicap in the process of vocabulary learning. Language glosses are a very useful tool to help students overcome these difficulties. This book examines language glosses and their effects on L2 incidental vocabulary learning and reading comprehension. Students? attitudes toward glosses are also examined.
