Formualtion of Sublingual Films

Sublingual drug delivery has now been recognized as a very promising route for delivery of therapeutic compounds including biopharmaceuticals. The sublingual mucosa offers a large, very thin, highly vascularised layer for efficient absorption of drug. Buspirone hydrochloride gets completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral doses but undergoes extensive firstpass metabolism with a bioavailability of about 5%. Oral solid dosage form i.e. tablet is most commonly used formulation in the market. However, its high first pass metabolism leads to low bioavailability demands exploring other drug delivery routes to improve bioavailability. Sublingual route may serve as better route for delivery of such kind of drugs which are having high first pass metabolism by oral route.
