It is increasingly understood that sustainable land management is required, not only to balance land for food and nature, but also to unlock paths to sustainable development. However, several challenges impede its successful promotion. Therefore, this study was aimed to fill this gap by investigating challenges of SLM in terms of the perception of farmers on the problem and causes of soil erosion; constraints of the existing SLM practices; and bio- physical, socio-economic and institutional challenges of promoting successful SLM. The study therefore, will be very useful to a wide reading audience throughout the globe in general, and in the sub-Saharan countries, in particular, the place where land degradation and climate change is becoming an extremely sever and thereby researchers, proffesionals, academicians, students, and readers will find it interesting and hopefully it will stimulate for further research in the area of environment and development.
