Colors of the Mind Your Motivational Retreat
Prof Jen Riley
According to researchers at Johns Hopkins University, coloring is an alternative to practicing meditation. This activity allows us to switch off our brains from other thoughts and focus only on the moment, helping to minimize anxiety. As a good 'mind exercise', coloring utilizes both sides of the brain's cerebral cortex and calms the amygdala (our fight or flight response). Professor Riley suffers from anxiety, and found coloring as a soothing point of relief. When frustrated by the complexities in many of the adult coloring books available, Prof. Riley sought another solution. Merging her love of daily motivation, and the idea that motivation is like bathing- you must do it daily as adopted from Zig Ziglar, she decided to create what she yearned. That's how Colors of the Mind was born. A convergence between daily motivation and a visualization of said motivational phrase that is not overly complex.
