While DCI Richard Langley and DI Eilidh Simmons search for a Botticelli painting at the former home of a slave trader in Wales, two detectives in London find themselves confronting a murder on Hampstead Heath that has all the hallmarks of a revenge killing. The murder victim also happens to have in his possession two Marc Chagall paintings, stolen by a Nazi after the Night of Broken Glass. Before long, Richard is drawn into a homicide case with sinister links to the past...
