In his last letter the apostle Paul tells us not only that "All Scripture is God-breathed," but also that all Scripture "is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness." All this is so that "the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work" (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Thus there is a message for every one of us in every book of the Bible, and occasionally such messages can come from the most unexpected places. One such place is the Old Testament book of Ruth. It is one of those books which you can take and read through in less than fifteen minutes at one sitting. Situated between the longer books of Judges and 1 Samuel, it has but four short chapters, although its brevity in no way diminishes its significance or its value. To obtain the maximum benefit from this devotional study it is suggested that the book of Ruth be read first.
