Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, who was born in January in 1832 at Daresbury in Cheshire. His literary works appeared under the penname of Lewis Carroll. He passed away in 1898. His book, which is popularly referred to as "Alice in Wonderland," was published for the first time in 1865. Its appearance triggered much interest among readers, and people of other languages were keen to have it translated into their languages. Within a few years of its first publication it was available in languages such as German, French, Swedish, Italian, Dutch, and Russian. In the 1900s a flood of other translations appeared. Even in the current century new translations are being published. As far as we know, this is the first translation to be published in isiZulu. Contributor Bio: Carroll, Lewis Lewis Carroll is the pen name of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (1832-1898). He was an English author, mathematician, and photographer. His novels Alice s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass were originally written for a little girl, but became extremely popular among adult readers. Contributor Bio: Tenniel, John The many works of Sir John Tenniel (1820-1914) include many humorous and political cartoons for Punch and other periodicals of the time, but he is best known for his illustrations of the original editions of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Class.
