Written when he was only 17 years old, Richard Strauss' Serenade in E-flat major for winds has been a staple in the wind repertoire since it was premiered by the wind ensemble of the Dresden Court Orchestra on November 27, 1882 under the direction of Franz Wüllner. The Dresden performance also marked Strauss' first major premiere outside Munich, the city where he was born and raised.
