The Homliest Angel and The Last Honey Bee
Dale Pierson Dapkins
This is a funny and poignant coming of age story about a young angel. It is quite contemporary and appeals to kids as well as adults. The message is that personal beauty goes deeper than beauty pageants, and that having a good personality with a sense of humor can be stronger assets than beauty. The author (and illustrator) won the Grand Prize in the Lorian Hemingway Short Story Competition two years in a row AND won the 2016 first prize in the Tennessee Williams Short Story Contest.
