Accounts of bravery are often told and retold by the children and grandchildren of the soldiers who fought valiantly in the World Wars. The political circumstances guiding both World Wars are vastly important, but so were the individual experiences of the soldiers who lived, fought, and died on distant battlefields. Each story contained in this volume explores the harsh realities of the soldier's life; from dealing with the prospect of death to the developed coldness to the loss of friends. While each tale has been fictionalized, they hold more than a little grain of truth. The Tanker is based closely off of a true story, although some fictional liberties were taken.
