Move Toward the Gunfire

A cardiac surgeon's daily descent into the Valley of the Shadow of Death involves high-stakes battle in which the plunder is human life. Few chosen careers can so predictably and deeply wound, and yet few provide a battlefield experience that so vividly displays the love and faithfulness of Jesus Christ. His promise is that He will be there, back-to-back with us in the fury of the fight. This firsthand experience of God's faithfulness allows us, in those earliest moments of the ambush, to mirror the response of those special warfare operators who reflexively move toward the gunfire.
