Rubáiyát are poems of Persian origin that use a four-line stanza. Some of the better known rubáiyát were penned by authors such as Omar Khayyám: and were widely celebrated for their philosophic reflections and musings upon life in general, and also life's ultimate meaning. In particular, Omar Khayyám's writings are known in the west via Edward Fitzgerald's wonderful translations. Fitzgerald rewrote Khayyám's original rubáiyát in English using the expressive rhymed quatrain, following the pattern AABA.
