As a teenager, LaToya was approached by a judge after a pageant. The judge said to her, "You did a really good job. Have you ever thought about getting your braces?" From that moment, Author LaToya Geter-Shockley was determined to win a pageant title with her overbite and without braces. Throughout her years in volunteering and working with young girls, she realized not every girl understands she is beautiful with each flaw. There are young girls who need inspiration and motivation.
