Sociocultural Analysis of Cross Border Trading in Idiroko in Nigeria: Socio-cultural Dimensions and Consequences of Illegal Cross Border Trading on Idiroko Border Community in Nigeria

The study examined the patterns of illegal cross border trading in Idiroko community, Ogun State, Nigeria. It also assessed the perceptions of the community dwellers towards the illegal cross border trading and examined the effects of the trading activities on the socio-cultural and economic life of the border community members. This was with a view to providing a broad-based knowledge on the socio-cultural dimensions and consequences of illegal cross-border trading in the border community. The study adopted survey method using questionnaire. This was complemented with qualitative data gathering techniques such as: key informant interviews, focus group discussions, and non-participant observation. The study concluded that the illegal cross border trading in Idiroko was rampant and a means of livelihood for the community members, but it had also led to the loss of cultural and moral values in Idiroko community.
