Assessing the Need for a Code of Ethics for Librarians in Zambia

The book has confirmed that librarians in Zambia are in need of a code of ethics and that there were professional values such as patron service and equal access to information among others that librarians adhere to in the absence of the code of a ethics. The absence of a code of ethics, affected the performance of librarians while on duty. Furthermore, the book found out that the Zambia Library Association has the capacity to develop a code of ethics, but no capacity to enforce it due to the absence of library legislation which is also the major barrier to the Association's establishment of a code of ethics for its profession. Finally, it is necessary for the Zambia Library Association to develop a code of ethics for its professionals first and later lobby for library legislation.
