Climate Change for the Novice

Climate change is the most important event that impacts planet earth in our time. It is so important to the entire world that if it is not adequately addressed now or shortly you or your progeny will be impacted by its deleterious consequences. CLIMATE CHANGE for the novice, is a slim book that emphasizes the need for everyone to be informed about climate change because of its potential to alter life on earth as we now know it. This necessity is urgent particularly among the masses in developing nations where awareness about climate change is limited. The book discusses the global warming effect of greenhouse gases derived from burning fossil fuels and the heightened vulnerability of developing countries to the undesirable outcomes. The book also deals with how the adverse effects of global warming/climate change can be managed, including the need to replace fossil fuels with alternative clean energy sources and the potential impact of such a change when the world moves completely to clean energy. Professor Dike summarizes in this slim book in a concise and easy to read fashion the relevant information required by a novice to appreciate climate change issues. Thus, this abridged book is a unique and invaluable resource for students and all persons especially in the developing world who are interested in learning about climate change. THE AUTHOR, Professor Dike N Kalu had his early education in Nigeria, received his graduate and postgraduate training in London University, London, U. K. and did his post doctorate studies at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, U. S. A. For twenty-six years he taught at the University of Texas health Science Center, San Antonio, U. S. A. In 1998 Kalu was awarded the D. Sc. degree by the University of London for his contributions to research, and in 2002 the University of Texas Health Science Center gave him the Professor Emeritus award on his retirement. Professor Dike as he is fondly known, now lives partly in Houston, Texas, U. S. A. with his family and partly in his villa at Abiriba, Abia State, Nigeria.
