'Muchiram Gurer Jibancharit' is an extraordinary work of Bankimchandra Chattopadhyay. Bankim babu himself was a deputy magistrate and he portrayed the very real character 'Muchiram Gur'. When Muchiram was appointed as a assistant employee in the court then he swore that he would not take a bribe. But after joining the job, he started bribing. At first some could be found by compromise, he was happy with that. After a few days, he learned how to get extra bribe to catch the clientele and started to accustomed it. If he does not get bribe he did not issue warrants or summons despite the order of the magistrate. Since the British Magistrate does not know Bangla so he had to help in recording the testimony of witnesses. when he took a bribe, he would change the statements of the witnesses.
