A decision to compete in an endurance ride puts Deputy Sarah Murdock in danger when, during a training session, she and her horse become unwilling participants in a wild horse roundup and get separated. Rescued by one of the wranglers, her confrontation with Ida Dudley, a boisterous protestor, is the first of a series of mysterious events that plunge Sarah into one of her most frustrating investigations. A miraculous discovery is made in the Nevada desert, but numerous interviews and extensive searches result in a lack of evidence, and potential leads turn into dead-ends. Even the endurance competition is plagued with challenges. Finally, a chance meeting with a person of interest cracks the case wide open.
