Before there were lots of blogs, there were personal computers not connected to the Internet. I had one of those when I was marking time during a writing block at a ramshackle veterinary and dog grooming practice. Sad dogs, sad owners, sad employees, and a borderline nutty evangelical Christian vet. So I started what in retrospect was a personal blog. The year was 1997. Almost two decades ago. In reviewing it I find ruminations and discussions that are still quite relevant to what's happening today. I was fearful of what was becoming of my country, in big ways and small, losses of freedom, losses of national character. I was skeptical of the new fad called Global Warming. I saw the emerging transformative power of celebrity, witnessed Tiger Woods lose the U. S. Open to cheering crowds who had no interest in any other competitor. The beginnings of domestic terrorism and the new secret establishment determined to keep us safe or in the dark or both.
